Taking the stage at Homegrown Space last Saturday, was the awesome blues rock band Dr Ruzdy. Originally formed in 2008, the founding members were Iskandar and Eddy, who had previously played together in the band. Other members, Ira and Owen later joined in 2010 and Dr. Ruzdy started gigging across KL and Selangor.

Songs played were Don’t Go, Matahari and Blues Jiwa Kacau, which are original selections by the band, as well as an authentic cover of the song Kasih, originally sang by Indonesian legend Hetty Koes Endang. We had back to back action last Saturday @ the Space, with stylo rock band Wedding Disco, talented singer songwriter Min’z and funny boys Djezna’s Stalker taking the stage!

First up for the day were newcomers Wedding Disco from Seremban, playing it safe with a series of covers by Jet, Oasis and Nirvana as well as three of their own songs - Tanda Tanya, Agenda Populariti, and Klasik Dansa. Being their second on stage performance, they seemed a little nervous but got over it by the end of their set.

Next was soulful singer songwriter Min’z, with her strong vocals and deep lyrics that especially resonate with feelings of insecurity and hurt. Min’z (pronounced min-zee), accompanied by several backup musicians, did a brilliant job in engaging the audience with her music, as the audience requested for more even after she had finished the song lineup for the day. A very intense showcase that will certainly be remembered for a long time to come.

Making the perfect closure for the evening were Djezna’s Stalker, the unique bunch with an awesome sense of humor. Vocalist Ahmad Nahri kicked of the act with a solo performance of
Clubbing” an original song, and a unique cover of his favourite song, “L-O-V-E” by Nat King Cole. Then, calling unto the stage his fellow bandmates, the show continued as they finished the show with another four songs.Good interaction with the audience, and great effort in trying to create “suspence” during the song Uninspired.

Lead by Abby (vox), Fina (guitar), Shasha (Guitar), Marylin (Bass) and Jessica (Drums), these hardcore chicks got the crowd alive and cheering for more with their electrifying tunes.

Tabitha Shaveena’s Gig
Sugin Charles | News | 06 28th, 2010| No Comments »

Packing up the space last Saturday, one would never guess it was 18 year old singer songwriter Tabitha Shaveena’s first showcase in front of an audience. Accompanied by her brother on guitar, sister on the keyboard, and a team of backup musicians who call themselves the Eternal Reformation, the crowd was soulfully entertained with a selection of original compositions by this Ipoh lass.

Sitting amongst the crowd, you really start to feel that her music does more than just connect with you. The soulful singing draws you in emotionally. It gave a good number of the audience Goosebumps. Songs rendered like “World Away”, “Not Easy”, “Love,” “In Time,” “Guy on the Train,” “Friend Indeed” and “Make the choice” are powerful interpretations of the singer-songwriter’s personal experiences.

Other songs sung were covers like “When I Look At You ( Miley Cyrus),  ”Do I Make You Proud (Taylor Hicks)”,  and “Always be my Baby (Mariah Carey).” The notable christian rock influence in her music really brought together an atmosphere of peace and harmony and was a hit with the diverse audience of the gig.

With top notch music, strong vocals and commendable talent, Tabitha Shaveena has great potential and we give you two thumbs up for a show well done!
