HOMEGROWN - SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL MUSIC, IT'S ABOUT TIME

And then there was more! After a short intermission, the show continued with the second half of the showcase, with Leech taking the stage. Playing a few covers and some of their own, such as Polkadotes, Tell A lie, Louder Than Love, and Heavy Than Ever they did well in prepping the space for the next act, Dish.

Dish were very original and well received by the audience, playing a series of songs that were classically Malay, with a dash of rock. Their songs Durja, Penglipur Lara, Tawan Menawan, Sofa Biru, Astakona, Kita Melayu and Singgahsana were different and authentic.

Then came the final act of the day, Sleep on TV, which were nowhere close to putting anyone to sleep. This loud energetic bunch rendered a number of highly electrifying songs, such as Die when I say Die, Shut Down, Sick & Scream, Wicked Man, From Garden to the Long Highway and Do by Yourself.

So yes, it was a hectic day, but it was definitely a hair raising experience. Great effort everyone!

What a Manic Sunday it was last week @ the Space, with a double showcase by Suzie and the Bebolas, Misery Through the Darkness, Medusa, Leech, Dish and Sleep on TV blasting the space in total loud action.

First up were Suzie and the Bebolas, who amused the crowd not only with the peculiar name they have for themselves, but their good music. Songs played were covers of ever famous hits such as Poker Face (Lady Gaga), Nobody (Wondergirls), Buried Myself Alive (The Used), and Zombie (The Pretty Reckless) and a few of their originals, such as Selain Dirimu and Love Undecided.

And then making the perfect prelude for a Metalcore Mania, was Misery Through the Darkness. This loud angsty bunch was set to rock out and did a good job in making an impression at the Space that day.

Main act Medusa was next up, making the closure for the first half of the showcase. This bunch got the crowd well alive and kicking with an intense and electrifying performance that cranked up the energy level at the Space.Songs played were Primadona, Lucky Bastard, Semifinal, Donnie Brasco, Thrombosis and Paradox, which were altogether loud and pure hardcore, ending the first part of the Manic Sunday Showcase at Homegrown Space. Great Job Y’all!

Adrenalize is a band consisting of five youngsters from Kuala Lumpur. Adrenalize was founded by Ojoee in the middle of April 2009 after he quit from a power pop band a year before. Since then, the band members had been working on their very first studio record which consists of one studio tracks and released as an introduction to the listeners. Their music strays away from all the musical features you are used to by blending all different kinds of music while aspiring to spread their music towards metal and hardcore/punk listeners.

Taking the stage at Homegrown Space last Saturday, was the awesome blues rock band Dr Ruzdy. Originally formed in 2008, the founding members were Iskandar and Eddy, who had previously played together in the band. Other members, Ira and Owen later joined in 2010 and Dr. Ruzdy started gigging across KL and Selangor.

Songs played were Don’t Go, Matahari and Blues Jiwa Kacau, which are original selections by the band, as well as an authentic cover of the song Kasih, originally sang by Indonesian legend Hetty Koes Endang. They were fun to watch and had great interaction with the crowd, which consisted of a good mix of young and old.

Also featured at the event were The Aces, who are currently exploring genres, ranging from Pop Rock to Ballad, Metal, Punk Rock, Rock and Emo Rock. Songs played were Jiwa Kacau, Usah and the unique Ekspresi Semberono.
Although it was a rather short show, by the sound of applause at the end of the showcase, it was evident that everyone left feeling entertained.

Medusa is a metalcore band from Petaling Jaya, Selangor Darul Ehsan. Formed by a bunch of close friends who got together in a studio. It started in 2006 when one of the band members said that we should start producing our own songs and expose it to the public.

Medusa marked their first performance at the end of December 2007 at Skizo, Cheras. Since then, they’ve performed in gigs at Paul’s Place. They’ve also performed as an opening act for Hari Keluarga S.M.K Bukit Bintang in 2008. Medusa then was invited to play a show organized by Exit Rock Event at Telekom Museum and also was invited to play for a gig held at Noisy Studio, Ampang. The biggest performance they played was as an opening guest for Rockaway 2009 held by One Buck Short and sponsored by Jack and Jill in Capsquare, Dang Wangi.

They shared stages with plenty of enormous bands such as One Buck Short, Love Me Butch, Pop Shuvit and many more. They’ve also played opening act for First Blood at One Café, Jln Tunku Abdul Rahman and the latest performance, they had played at Harbour Place Mall, Klang. They still in the progress of making their E.P which was recorded by Subhuman Production. Their songs have a combination of punk, melodic death metal, thrash and hardcore.
