Teacher leave those kids alone, it’s a schools out gig!!!
6th June Sunday 2010,
Yeah, the first week of school holidays have begun, Homegrown Space ushers in this break with our homemade show Schools Out Gig is organised by and features talents under 21years such as Tabitha Shaveena, Automan, Cassandra, Beatboxer Sho, Shruthi, special guest from ICOM Terry, a rock unite highlight band Mystery Call and lyrical stylist Gila Monstarz.
First up was Hadi, a walk in, who was purveying the instruments at Bentley decided kick off the show with his acoustic performance. Next, first timer singing to an audience; MissTabitha Shaveena accompanied by her brother on guitar, eased us with her songs World Away, Love, her deep vocals resonated a trapped powerful sound, this girl has a lot of potential to grow vocally. Nice tunes and well thought ballads. ‘Nothing can satisfy my heart, only you’ stuck in my brain.
The came Automan Band, these 5 guys being best friends in school, decided to take it seriously after the first jamming session, with Adam on guitar, these Indie rockers, rocked all the way with their Indie Brit pop style. Soon after our own host Cassandra performed a vocal medley without instruments. Anxiously awaiting his turn, aspiring Beatboxer Sho, the boy certainly wowed us, he didn’t trip on his tongue once presenting his take on beating the vocal box, likened to human mobile disco box with effects from techno to R&B, a good sport and entertaining the audience with lyrical banter.
From Beat-boxing to the finger styling’s on the guitar with Terry from ICOM, something that awed all of us. You just have to see for yourself. Special thanks to Siva Chandran for arranging this. Rock Unites then presented Mystery Call, taking the stage to show them how rock is cooked. Yat Yee Sam Sei, definitely for classic rock style fans. Our second last act Miss Shruthi a19 year old, who won best Tamil song Album for the AIM, with ‘the secret of nature’ and other favourites.
Finally to close the show none other than Gila Monstarz who are brilliant as usual who never fail to bring up the life at the party with R&B at its best. Can’t wait for the next one coming up in 3 months.
Thanks to all the artistes and their managers and those who came to support all under 21’s.
