The Gila Monstarz

~ The brainchild of both Roshan(K-townclan)& Young Ruff, the Gila Monstarz are most definitely not your average hip hop group. Individually, they’ve shared stages & recorded music with Malaysia’s finest (Jaclyn Victor, Malique Ibrahim, DJ Fuzz, Yogi B, Pop Shuvit, OAG, Spider, V.E. to Tata Young, Status Quo, Click 5ive etc) Individually, they’ve performed at the Sepang F1 Concert, Asian X-Games, THR Awards Show, Star Marathon, Nike Dance Hall Concert, Tiger FC Season Finale and the Bukit Jalil Youth Day, to name a few. Individually, they have gained so much “XP Points” and in this “GAME”, together, they are a force to be reckoned with. While working on personal projects the duo decided to form a project group in May of 2009 and put their creative vision, talent, music styles, entrepreneurship skills in a blender and blend it. The Gila Monstarz welcomed 2010 with the release of their debut album, 43Thousand and their first single “Let’s Get Mary’d” has drawn so much attention.

Upon meeting Dead Eyes Glow, this Kuala Terenganuan metal band founded in 2006, who’ve been touring the peninsula, charmed us all at the space with their personable attitude and demeanour. DEG comprises of 5 passionate individuals starting with Zack on vocals, Apit & Naza G on guitar, Aren on drums and sessionist Munk. Inspired by English American Progressive Metal Bands such as Bring Me The Horizon, Your City is Forgotten & Centurion, Architects just to name a few. DEG definitely delight hardcore fans through their grounded raw energy from gut grunting, teeth gnarling and heavy groaning coupled with heavy riffings, passionate emotional lyrics spouting that translated into a real forceful intense hardcore metal music.

The Playlist, filled with recorded releases and upcomings:

The Last Flight

Devil In your Kiss

Fragile Opera

Deathstars and the Bloody Skies

The Falss of Greatest Traitor

All in all their performance was good, genuinely I would have liked to hear some of the lyrics deciphered , but the vibe and emotions pouring out of Zack was truly enough, it managed to scare the ghost at Bentley into a corner. With glowing eyes and haunting sounds; our red couch seemed to turn bloody. If you’re not a metal fan, check these guys out, you might get addicted.

Not Stubborn and a Band

All the way from Kajang, presenting Stubborn Band, comprise of Din and Sabri on guitar, PK on drum, all student pursuing college in architecture, hospitality and business. An entertaining trio to watch, especially 1000 hands Pk who thrashed the drums. Macam fast, tu furious!! Fun, lyrical and bursting with energy, their songs were all mostly about love.

On the playlist
1) Emma’s whisper - pow
2) Marilyn Monroe - my favourite
3) So sorry - their first song
4) April Fool Love - fresh
5) Yang and Crappy - zing

A good performance, this trio stubbornly punked the homegrown stage with great interplay of vocals between Din and Sabri. We hope to hear more songs of a different loving variety. More angst.

The Gila Monstarz!

shared stages & recorded music with Malaysia’s finest (Jaclyn Victor, Malique Ibrahim,

While working on personal projects, These Individuals decided to form a project group in
May of 09 and put their creative vision, talent, music styles, entrepreneurship skills in a
blender a blend it. In a span of 9 months, the outfit has already released a 12 track
album titled 43thousand.

What do the Gila Monstarz represent and how do they stand out from the rest?

“Experimental. Very experimental, emphasis on mental. We both have an innate
passion for music. When we say music, its not just Rap/Hip Hop, it’s the whole mother
tree, down to the roots clutched in the ground. We want to take our music to greater
heights and show people the value of keeping an open mind and listening to different
genres of music. And what sets us apart from the rest you ask? Let our music paint a
clearer picture for you” ~gila monstarz
