Alright, as we all know it is already hard enough to be an artist in Malaysia and what more make a career out of it.But hey, we all should pursue our dreams regardless of the outcome.
So in this case, for musicians specifically, money is often the biggest issue when you are a new, budding artist or band.First you have your musical instruments to think of, then you have to worry bout your jamming costs and then after all that you have your recording to do.If not how else your music is going to get out there?Correct?

To get a decent recording you need to pay something in the range of RM500 to RM 1000 per song. Now if you are recording a full ep of 5 songs that can accumulate to quite a bit.Ultimately in the long run if you were to invest that money properly you save tonnes of money by doing your own recording.

No I’m not saying you should open a studio right away but whats wrong with a bit of knowledge on how to slowly start one. That is why you have to be at the Homegrown Space this Saturday, 1st August 2009!

We have a professional from The Midi Specialist in Low Yat, http://www.midispecialist.com/ coming over to show you what are the equipments you can or should get to start your very own home recording setup as well as some pointers on doing your own recordings.

So all of you musicians,dj’s, and producer wannabes make sure you make your way to the space this weekend. You wont be disappointed.

Never Forgotten…
Joshua Desmond | News | 07 28th, 2009| No Comments »

In this past week, not just the film industry but the whole of Malaysia suffered a great loss.A multi-talented, outstanding individual by the name of Yasmin Ahmad. She does not need an introduction. For those of you who want to know her background and history there’s always wikipedia.

Her movies and commercials have touched many people. Her messages always get through and her creativity and passion will be missed. We can confidently say there will not be another like her.

Homegrown would like to take this opportunity to wish her family and loved ones our condolences. She is gone but she will never be forgotten.

Thank you Yasmin!

p.s. Pay more attention to the local talent.Don’t start missing them only when they’re gone.

We are slightly over a month away from celebrating our 52nd Independence.
How are you planning to celebrate it?
Are you going to be like everyone else and go watch the same old fireworks display or are you going to do something that will make this years’ independence a memorable one for yourself?

We at Homegrown are giving you that chance. We are giving you the chance to do something out of the ordinary this year.

I am sure you have all heard about the Merdeka Indie Short Film and Song Composition contest. It has been running for about a month now but sadly we have not had much entries.

WHAT IS STOPPING YOU?No inspiration? Not in the patriotic mood?
Well maybe here’s something that might get those creative juices flowing again.
There are rumors of a CASH PRIZE running around.
Like how that sounds? So put on your thinking caps and surprise us with your indie movies and song compositions!

You have till the end of August to send in your entries. So hurry!
