This is what we’re talking about - Using the Homegrown Space!  Hip Hop artists Colabr8 and Dedeq actually launched their collaborative album “1212” at the space last week. The album is a complete DIY effort and even their press conference and album launch were organized by close friends and acquaintances.

The launch was a success as other artists like Noh from Hujan, Ashroff from Stonebay and even JD from Pop Shuvit who also did the mixing on their album were there to show their support. The press and audiences were entertained by the duo and their live band performing their single “1212”.

The Homegrown Space is honored to be a  part of this. And for those of you who missed it, here’s the video of the launch.

Si Murai Penipu
Uzair Sawal | News | 06 11th, 2009| No Comments »

No, nobody at Homegrown is being a murai (a noisy bird) or a penipu (liar). It was just one of our favourite songs performed at Homegrown Space recently by Stonebay.

During their set at Homegrown Space, they also annoucned that they will be releasing their EP soon and also will be performing in front of an expected huge Indonesian crowd at Jak Cloth Fest 2009, Jakarta at the end of this month. I am happy to know that more local acts are getting the international acknowledgement.

Besides Stonebay, we had another 7 bands that performed at Homegrown Space. To those who missed it, memang terlepas lah but you still get to watch the videos we shot once we have our new website up and running steadily.

For now, enjoy the acoustic version of “Si Murai Penipu” by Stonebay.

The Rock Sunday at Homegrown Space
Uzair Sawal | News | 06 11th, 2009| 4 Comments »

KUALA LUMPUR —June 11, 2009— Following the successful launch of Homegrown Space and its Music  Showcase and Clinic in conjunction with Bentley’s first year anniversary at Wisma Bentley, Mutiara Damansara in May, Homegrown is keeping the spirit of  supporting the local arts alive by being a host to many other fresh  acts in the scene with the chance to be a part of the Homegrown movement.

Homegrown’s efforts continued with a Rock Sunday Weekend organized for the school holiday season. Some of the new rock acts included Marionexess, a part of a poet group- Negarakus. This folk rock band performed songs like 8TV, I am Fantaghiro and others that wooed the crowd in amazement with their uniqueness. Homegrown was also privileged to have indie bands such as Odie Audio, O-TWO, and Shizuka who traveled from up north to play at the Homegrown Space.

Another crowd pulling band was rock alternative band Stonebay. Playing an acoustic set, these three piece band managed to draw audiences with their alluring vocals and clean acoustic sound. Playing their hit single Sangsi and Si Murai Penipu, audiences and fans were mesmerized. The audience deserved the biggest credit as they stayed throughout the 8 bands’ performances that included Aural Joint, Auburn, and Brainheads.

If you missed the Rock Sunday Weekend at the Homegrown Space, don’t fret, you can watch all the acts by simply logging on to www.homegrownspace.com.my.
