Pak Samad at the Homegrown Space
Michael Simon | News | 05 29th, 2009| 2 Comments »

You’ve read about him in your school books. And some of you may have seen him on the LRT or some form of public transport. But it was a grand honour to have Pak Samad Said, LIVE, at the Homegrown Space last Sunday. The afternoon of the Spoken Word was really encouraging looking at the turnout of audience as well as the artists themselves. We’re definitely going to have more in the near future, but for the mean time, check out this clip of the living legend himself.

This week is the last week of the string of concerts at the Bentley Auditorium. From next week, it’s only going to be performances at the Homegrown Space itself. So hurry up, when are YOU performing?

Also, please do sign up as a VIP member. We’re planning a lot more including the first Homegrown Music Festival and we want to update you efficiently.

Standup at Homegrown Space
Michael Simon | News | 05 22nd, 2009| 5 Comments »

You know, there’s been sort of  small standup comedy scene here in KL. Not too many places though for budding comedians to perform. We at the Homegrown Space want to give you comedians, another platform, though a bit smaller, for you to show people what you’ve got. Take the Homegrown Space as a kind of a testing ground so to say. But hey, if you’re good, and with our promotions, you could be the next best thing! Check out this next clip which was recorded at the launch of the space. This is Andrew Netto and he’s on his way to becoming one of Malaysia’s best!

Another interesting development in KL is the Spoken Word scene. I’ve been in the local entertainment business for some time now, and i’ve never seen this many acts! This is awesome! And this Sunday, 24 of May, we’re having Illya Shahira, Afi Momo, Negarakus, Rahmat Haron and get this, A. Samad Said! It’s amazing that he’s agreed to this at the space! To give you guys who haven’t had a taste of the spoken word,  check out this clip from Dizzy and The recorded at the Homegrown Space launch recently.

Please keep in mind that it’s going to be another power packed weekend this week and most importantly, please come and support our local music scene la. Remember, it’s all FREE!

Cheers,

Michael Simon

Hi there! I’m so sorry the the Homegrown Space website was down for a bit. Apparently there was a problem with the server. And for those trying to access the homegrowntv website, well, it should be up in a bit. We’ve got tons of videos to put up there, so please hang on.

There’s been tremendous interest in the space lately from you guys. Thanks for the enquiries. What I’d like to do is to give you a guide on how to book your slot at the Homegrown Space.

1. Email us, call us or meet us at the space and tell us what you want to do.

2. If it’s music, give us a sample of what you’re going to perform. If it’s other than music, you can tell us what you want to do and give us a smaple if possible. You’ll also have to sign a standard release form. Remember this space can be used for standup comedy, poetry recitals, album launches, film screenings, art exhibitions, photography exhibitions, talks and seminars etc.

3. We’ll agree on a date/dates for your performance. We’ve got limited backline and if you need more stuff, you’ve got to bring it in.

4. We’ll need to know how many people you’ve invited to come and how many people have confirmed attendance. Please remember the space can hold up to 50 pax comfortably. If you need us to, we can also promote your event on this website prior to your performance if you need public attendance.

5. You perform.

That’s your 5 step guide to performing at the Homegrown Space. And remember it’s all FREE for you.

Cheers,

Michael
